House Training a Puppy
House training a puppy should take you up to half a year to complete. Of course, if you have a lot of time on your hands and are always with your puppy you could house train quickly.
You will find that puppies eat, play and excrete continuously. This is because their bladders and bowel controls are not developed. Once they grow a bit, puppies can be expected to control their motions a lot better. When your puppy enters your home, he does not know that it is incorrect to dirty your floors and carpets. You are going to have to house train him up to move around the house as per your requirements.
At the outset, watch his movements and actions just before he relieves himself. Watch carefully for these signs so that you can come in quickly while he is preparing to relieve himself. This is what you need to be looking at when you are housebreaking the puppy.

Your puppy will hate his confinement initially, so make sure that you purchase a crate thats comfortable. Spread a blanket at the bottom and always keep a bowl of water for him to drink from. Also, leave his chewable toys and some food treats lying around so that he enjoys the feeling of being in his own little den.

You will have to accept soiled carpets every now and then during the period of training if you are not attentive to your puppies need. Each time that he relieves himself outdoors, give him a treat and praise him. Make your puppies training experience enjoyable and he will respond better.
In case you happen to not be able to spend time with your puppy at home, put him into a room that is protected from his playful deeds (scratching, biting, chewing and peeing/ pooping). Cover the floor with sheets and paper. Initially you will find that he eliminates all over the room and tears up the paper and create a mess all around. This is the best way to leave him unattended. You will of course have your cleaning job cut out and need to have time put aside for this.
